MBT\/UEA<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-divider stk-block-divider stk-block stk-2abbdd5\" data-block-id=\"2abbdd5\"><style>.stk-2abbdd5 {margin-bottom:8px !important;}<\/style><hr class=\"stk-block-divider__hr\"\/><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-columns stk-block-columns stk-block stk-503322f\" data-block-id=\"503322f\"><style>.stk-503322f {margin-bottom:4px !important;}<\/style><div class=\"stk-row stk-inner-blocks stk-block-content stk-content-align stk-503322f-column\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-column stk-block-column stk-column stk-block stk-611479b\" data-v=\"4\" data-block-id=\"611479b\"><div class=\"stk-column-wrapper stk-block-column__content stk-container stk-611479b-container stk--no-background stk--no-padding\"><div class=\"stk-block-content stk-inner-blocks stk-611479b-inner-blocks\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">O Programa de P\u00f3s-gradua\u00e7\u00e3o em Biotecnologia e Recursos Naturais da Amaz\u00f4nia, foi homologado pelo CNE atrav\u00e9s da Portaria n\u00b0 4.310, 21\/12\/2004, sendo este um Programa de p\u00f3s-gradua\u00e7\u00e3o que possui apenas a modalidade de Curso de Mestrado Acad\u00eamico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">O Curso de Mestrado em Biotecnologia e Recursos Naturais &#8211; PPGMBT da Universidade do Estado do Amazonas (UEA) visa qualificar profissionais para atua\u00e7\u00e3o nas \u00e1reas de ensino, pesquisa, extens\u00e3o, inova\u00e7\u00e3o e gest\u00e3o, de modo a propiciar recursos humanos ao sistema p\u00fablico e privado de ci\u00eancia, tecnologia e empreendedorismo. O PPGMBT tem como princ\u00edpio formar mestre capazes de contribuir para a conserva\u00e7\u00e3o e promo\u00e7\u00e3o do desenvolvimento sustentado da Amaz\u00f4nia, bem como com a melhoria da qualidade de vida de seus habitantes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A UEA, apoiada no trip\u00e9 indissoci\u00e1vel: ensino, pesquisa e extens\u00e3o comunit\u00e1ria, a UEA, atrav\u00e9s do ensino de gradua\u00e7\u00e3o e seu programa de inicia\u00e7\u00e3o cient\u00edfica; dos cursos de p\u00f3s-gradua\u00e7\u00e3o lato- e stricto sensu; das atividades de extens\u00e3o orientadas para a comunidade, promove a integra\u00e7\u00e3o entre a academia e a sociedade, direcionando seus estudos e pesquisas para as demandas sociais e econ\u00f4micas do estado. Estes t\u00eam como alvo maior o conhecimento cient\u00edfico sobre a Amaz\u00f4nia brasileira e continental, apoiando-se nos valores \u00e9ticos capazes de integrar o homem \u00e0 sociedade e de aprimorar a qualidade dos recursos humanos existentes na regi\u00e3o.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">O PPGMBT iniciou suas atividades em 2003, na \u00e1rea de avalia\u00e7\u00e3o Ci\u00eancias Biol\u00f3gicas. Desde ent\u00e3o, j\u00e1 entregou para a sociedade 210 Mestres em Biotecnologia e Recursos Naturais, contribuindo de forma significativa para a qualifica\u00e7\u00e3o de recursos humanos no Estado do Amazonas. A cria\u00e7\u00e3o do PPGMBT se deu apenas dois anos ap\u00f3s a cria\u00e7\u00e3o da UEA e contou com o apoio da SUFRAMA e da rec\u00e9m-criada FAPEAM. Pesquisadores do INPA e professores tempor\u00e1rios da UEA formavam ent\u00e3o o quadro docente. Os primeiros professores concursados integraram o curso em 2008 e apenas a partir de 2012 o corpo docente pode contar com professores produtivos da casa, que conseguiram estruturar laborat\u00f3rios e grupos de pesquisa. Atualmente, o PPGMBT conta com um quadro de professores majoritariamente da UEA e com pesquisadores do INPA e UFAM, melhorando continuamente, dentro de suas limita\u00e7\u00f5es, sua contribui\u00e7\u00e3o cient\u00edfica e acad\u00eamica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">O PPGMBT possui uma \u00fanica \u00e1rea de concentra\u00e7\u00e3o em Biotecnologia e Bioprospec\u00e7\u00e3o, dividida em duas linhas de pesquisa:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u00c1rea de concentra\u00e7\u00e3o: Biotecnologia e bioprospec\u00e7\u00e3o<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Linhas de pesquisa:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>01 &#8211; Conserva\u00e7\u00e3o e uso sustent\u00e1vel da biodiversidade<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Linha de pesquisa com o objetivo de realizar o invent\u00e1rio da biodiversidade e investiga\u00e7\u00e3o cient\u00edfica de componentes da flora e da fauna com potencial para utiliza\u00e7\u00e3o na melhoria da qualidade de vida do homem e redu\u00e7\u00e3o das desigualdades sociais. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>02 &#8211; Bioprospec\u00e7\u00e3o, bioprocessos e bioprodutos<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A linha de pesquisa tem como foco a bioprospec\u00e7\u00e3o flor\u00edstica e faun\u00edstica de produtos e subprodutos com o intuito de valorizar a biodiversidade amaz\u00f4nica. Engloba o desenvolvimento de m\u00e9todos diagn\u00f3sticos imunol\u00f3gicos e gen\u00e9ticos, al\u00e9m da localiza\u00e7\u00e3o, avalia\u00e7\u00e3o e explora\u00e7\u00e3o sistem\u00e1tica e legal dos recursos biol\u00f3gicos. O objetivo \u00e9 identificar e aproveitar os recursos gen\u00e9ticos e bioqu\u00edmicos presentes na regi\u00e3o em seus diversos aspectos, visando aplica\u00e7\u00f5es comerciais sustent\u00e1veis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">O curso apresenta car\u00e1ter multidisciplinar, constituindo-se em espa\u00e7o acad\u00eamico para forma\u00e7\u00e3o de mestres. A cria\u00e7\u00e3o do PPGMBT, em 2003, atendeu uma importante demanda para a qualifica\u00e7\u00e3o de profissionais na Amaz\u00f4nia Brasileira, voltada para a aplica\u00e7\u00e3o dos recursos naturais amaz\u00f4nicos, na rec\u00e9m-criada UEA. Inicialmente o PPGMBT possu\u00eda em seu quadro docente apenas professores tempor\u00e1rios e servidores de outras institui\u00e7\u00f5es de pesquisa localizadas em Manaus. A partir de 2008, quando os primeiros concursos p\u00fablicos para docentes foram realizados, o PPGMBT come\u00e7ou a passar por modifica\u00e7\u00f5es significativas, com a entrada de docentes efetivos. At\u00e9 2008 o PPGMBT encontrava-se na \u00e1rea de avalia\u00e7\u00e3o de Biologia Geral, quando migrou para a de Biotecnologia, por determina\u00e7\u00e3o da CAPES.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At\u00e9 o final de 2024, o PPGMBT matriculou um total de 38 alunos. Deste total, 38 foram titulados (100%). No final do ano de 2024 estavam matriculados 16 alunos, sendo titulados neste ano 4 alunos. Assim, o total de alunos em 2024 foi de 15, entre matriculados e titulados. Para 2025, foram oferecidas 10 vagas, os quais ser\u00e3o matriculados em abril. Dentre estes, ser\u00e1 matriculado um aluno de mestrado selecionado pelo Programa de Alian\u00e7as para Educa\u00e7\u00e3o e Capacita\u00e7\u00e3o (PAEC-OEA-GCUB), no \u00e2mbito do Acordo de Coopera\u00e7\u00e3o entre a Organiza\u00e7\u00e3o dos Estados Americanos (OEA) e o Grupo Coimbra de Universidades Brasileiras (GCUB). At\u00e9 o momento, 06 alunos estrangeiros ingressaram pelo PAEC-OEA-GCUB, provenientes da Bol\u00edvia, Col\u00f4mbia, Guatemala, Peru e M\u00e9xico. Al\u00e9m destes, um estrangeiro cursou o PPGMBT, vindo de Mo\u00e7ambique, por meio do Programa de Forma\u00e7\u00e3o de Professores de Educa\u00e7\u00e3o Superior de Pa\u00edses Africanos &#8211; ProAfri-GCUB. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gcub.org.br\/universidades-brasileiras\/\">https:\/\/www.gcub.org.br\/universidades-brasileiras\/<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Observa-se que os egressos do PPGMBT t\u00eam dado continuidade \u00e0 sua forma\u00e7\u00e3o acad\u00eamica, uma vez que de 162 mestres formados at\u00e9 o momento, 86% ingressaram em cursos de doutorado no Amazonas e em outros estados brasileiros. Al\u00e9m disso, os egressos s\u00e3o bem absorvidos no mercado de trabalho, especialmente no ensino superior e na pesquisa, seja em institui\u00e7\u00f5es p\u00fablicas ou privadas. Para evidenciar este fato, nos \u00faltimos dois quadri\u00eanios 41 dos 46 mestres (86 %) formados at\u00e9 o momento encontram-se afiliados a importantes institui\u00e7\u00f5es p\u00fablicas de ensino e pesquisa, como UEA, INPA, UFAM e Centro de Biotecnologia da Amaz\u00f4nia (CBA) como alunos de doutorado, pesquisadores ou servidores ou P\u00f3s-Doutores. Alguns egressos tamb\u00e9m atuam como docentes em IES privadas, como Centro Universit\u00e1rio do Norte e IES p\u00fablica, como Universidade ROVUMA, Mo\u00e7ambique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Outro ponto de destaque para este quadri\u00eanio que se encerra, \u00e9 a cria\u00e7\u00e3o de execu\u00e7\u00e3o das atividades da comiss\u00e3o de autoavalia\u00e7\u00e3o do PPGMBT. Em virtude da vis\u00e3o da CAPES sobre a avalia\u00e7\u00e3o da p\u00f3s-gradua\u00e7\u00e3o stricto sensu no Brasil, com a introdu\u00e7\u00e3o da Autoavalia\u00e7\u00e3o como vari\u00e1vel priorit\u00e1ria do processo de avalia\u00e7\u00e3o, foi publicada a Resolu\u00e7\u00e3o N. 11\/2020 &#8211; CONSUNIV (<a href=\"https:\/\/legislacao2.uea.edu.br\/index.php?dest=info&amp;doc=a&amp;num=17379\">https:\/\/legislacao2.uea.edu.br\/index.php?dest=info&amp;doc=a&amp;num=17379<\/a>),&nbsp; que aprova o regulamento da pol\u00edtica de autoavalia\u00e7\u00e3o da p\u00f3s-gradua\u00e7\u00e3o stricto sensu da Universidade do Estado do Amazonas. Desde ent\u00e3o, o PPGMBT mant\u00e9m a comiss\u00e3o de autoavalia\u00e7\u00e3o, formada por seis pesquisadores, um discente, um egresso e um t\u00e9cnico. A partir dos resultados da comiss\u00e3o de autoavalia\u00e7\u00e3o, o PPGMBT re\u00fane par\u00e2metros quali- e quantitativos para a formula\u00e7\u00e3o de objetivos estrat\u00e9gicos para cada item de avalia\u00e7\u00e3o nas tr\u00eas dimens\u00f5es (Programa, Forma\u00e7\u00e3o e Impacto na Sociedade), obtendo um planejamento efetivo, com metas claramente estabelecidas. A Comiss\u00e3o de autoavalia\u00e7\u00e3o do PPGMBT visa ainda conduzir as discuss\u00f5es sobre o planejamento estrat\u00e9gico do curso, em conson\u00e2ncia com o Plano de Desenvolvimento Institucional (PDI) da Universidade do Estado do Amazonas. Assim, realiza-se um acompanhamento minucioso da situa\u00e7\u00e3o dos egressos, mantendo contato com os mesmos e compilando as estat\u00edsticas sobre sua posi\u00e7\u00e3o atual, continuidade da forma\u00e7\u00e3o acad\u00eamica, atua\u00e7\u00e3o na p\u00f3s-gradua\u00e7\u00e3o, produ\u00e7\u00e3o intelectual, posi\u00e7\u00e3o em cargos de gest\u00e3o e em sociedades cient\u00edficas e n\u00edvel salarial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Comparativamente ao \u00faltimo quadri\u00eanio, o PPGMBT fez mudan\u00e7as profundas na forma de gest\u00e3o do programa, especialmente com a troca da coordena\u00e7\u00e3o do mesmo, visando uma mudan\u00e7a de paradigma ao longo deste quadri\u00eanio que se encerra. Nestes pontos, diversas conquistas s\u00e3o elencadas, as quais contribu\u00edram para uma vis\u00edvel melhoria em certos pontos, tais como a capta\u00e7\u00e3o de recursos, intera\u00e7\u00e3o com o setor produtivo e internacionaliza\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recentemente, as primeiras startups de egressos do PPGMBT foram criadas: Elevar da Amaz\u00f4nia Ltda (36.485.521\/0001-23) e Magnus Amazonia Biotecnologia Vegetal Ltda (50.208.762\/0001-56). A primeira \u00e9 fruto do desenvolvimento de uma disserta\u00e7\u00e3o em processos fermentativos, que culminou em uma empresa que comercializar vinagres e kombuchas produzidos com ingredientes da Amaz\u00f4nia. O pr\u00f3prio PPGMBT tem contado com a colabora\u00e7\u00e3o de egressos que possuem o t\u00edtulo de doutor na oferta de disciplinas e na co-orienta\u00e7\u00e3o de alunos, para o fortalecimento das linhas de pesquisa j\u00e1 existentes. De maneira geral, o PPGMT faz um acompanhamento pr\u00f3ximo de seus egressos, uma vez que \u00e9 um PPG nucleador que forma mestres que seguem caminhos diversos ap\u00f3s a conclus\u00e3o de seus mestrados. (ver carta de ades\u00e3o e parcerias nos anexos da proposta)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A segunda empresa tamb\u00e9m surge de um projeto de disserta\u00e7\u00e3o dentro do PPGMBT, a qual versou sobre a otimiza\u00e7\u00e3o da produ\u00e7\u00e3o biotecnol\u00f3gica de mudas de plantas de interesse da regi\u00e3o, sejam para fins madeireiros e\/ou de confec\u00e7\u00e3o de produtos, tais como cosm\u00e9ticos. Cabe destacar que esta empresa foi aberta no munic\u00edpio de Itacoatiara, fortalecendo a P&amp;D no interior do estado (ponto de interioriza\u00e7\u00e3o do PPGMBT), sendo recentemente transferida para Manaus por quest\u00f5es documentais e t\u00e9cnicas. Indica-se que ainda que haja esta mudan\u00e7a, a empresa segue realizando parte de suas atividades no interior do estado. (ver carta de ades\u00e3o e parcerias nos anexos da proposta)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ainda no tema relacionado a integra\u00e7\u00e3o com o setor produtivo, o PPGMBT passou a ter parcerias de P&amp;D com outras startups da regi\u00e3o, como por exemplo a D\u2019Amazonia Origens Agroflorestal Ltda (09.397.693\/0001-72) que est\u00e1 localizada em Mau\u00e9s, interior do estado e que atua no ramo aliment\u00edcio de suplementos com a tem\u00e1tica regional. A empresa Urucuna Cosm\u00e9ticos e Artesanatos Ltda (36.584.300\/0001-02) tamb\u00e9m firmou parceria com o PPGMBT, em especial para o estudo composicional de esp\u00e9cies vegetais amaz\u00f4nicas visando a confec\u00e7\u00e3o de cosm\u00e9ticos. Por fim, estabelecemos parceria com a empresa Norte Gen\u00f4mica Solu\u00e7\u00f5es Moleculares Ltda (38.154.334\/0001-92), a qual fornece an\u00e1lises moleculares, bem como atua em bioinform\u00e1tica para a confec\u00e7\u00e3o de softwares. (ver carta de ades\u00e3o e parcerias nos anexos da proposta)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Outro marco deste quadri\u00eanio \u00e9 a obten\u00e7\u00e3o de verbas de pesquisa para o programa de p\u00f3s-gradua\u00e7\u00e3o. Pela primeira vez, o PPGMBT concorreu a um edital nacional e conseguiu aprova\u00e7\u00e3o. Trata-se do edital PDPG Emergencial de Consolida\u00e7\u00e3o Estrat\u00e9gica dos Programas de P\u00f3s-Gradua\u00e7\u00e3o stricto sensu acad\u00eamicos, o qual disponibilizou aproximadamente R$ 400.000,00 na forma de insumos e bolsas, os quais visam a melhoria dos diversos \u00edndices do programa. Com os recursos deste programa, realizamos a\u00e7\u00f5es de internacionaliza\u00e7\u00e3o e fortalecemos as pesquisas dos estudantes com financiamento de pesquisa limitado. Por meio deste projeto, recebemos o Prof. Dr. Ant\u00f4nio Jord\u00e3o, do Instituto Polit\u00e9cnico de Viseu \u2013 Portugal, o qual veio a Manaus para ministrar disciplinas e firmar parcerias de pesquisa. Parcerias estas que j\u00e1 culminaram na publica\u00e7\u00e3o de dois artigos, bem como culminou em um est\u00e1gio de curta dura\u00e7\u00e3o de nossa egressa Anne Terezinha Fernandes de Souza (\u00e0 \u00e9poca aluna regular do PPGMBT) no referido Instituto. Destacamos este fato como a primeira vez que o PPGMBT enviou um discente ao exterior para o desenvolvimento do seu trabalho de disserta\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ao longo dos \u00faltimos dois quadri\u00eanios, o PPGMBT procurou ampliar seu parque t\u00e9cnico f\u00edsico com vistas a melhoria da qualidade dos projetos desenvolvidos, e consequentemente com a avalia\u00e7\u00e3o da CAPES. Entretanto, as conquistas neste ponto s\u00f3 ficam evidentes a partir de 2021, coincidentemente com o in\u00edcio do atual per\u00edodo de avalia\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">O primeiro exemplo desta expans\u00e3o \u00e9 a cria\u00e7\u00e3o da Central de Cole\u00e7\u00f5es Microbiol\u00f3gicas da Universidade do Estado do Amazonas (CCM\/UEA). Abrigada na Escola Superior de Ci\u00eancias da Sa\u00fade da UEA, a CCM abriga mais de 2000 linhagens de microrganismos oriundos dos estudos executados no PPGMBT ao longo destes 21 anos. A CCM tem import\u00e2ncia destacada na conserva\u00e7\u00e3o e explora\u00e7\u00e3o da diversidade gen\u00e9tica e metab\u00f3lica de microrganismos, e para a biodiversidade como um todo. O material biol\u00f3gico obtido a partir das cole\u00e7\u00f5es \u00e9 mat\u00e9ria-prima para a obten\u00e7\u00e3o dos mais variados produtos biotecnol\u00f3gicos, como f\u00e1rmacos, alimentos e cosm\u00e9ticos, sendo fundamental para alavancar a bioeconomia. Na agricultura, por exemplo, os microrganismos s\u00e3o importantes na fixa\u00e7\u00e3o de nitrog\u00eanio e no controle de pragas, podem ser aplicados ainda como agentes de biorremedia\u00e7\u00e3o, produ\u00e7\u00e3o de enzimas, na biocat\u00e1lise e na produ\u00e7\u00e3o de biocombust\u00edveis. Muito mais que servirem como reposit\u00f3rios de material biol\u00f3gico \u00e0 pesquisa cient\u00edfica, as cole\u00e7\u00f5es subsidiam atividades de ensino e importante presta\u00e7\u00e3o de servi\u00e7os, al\u00e9m de apresentarem valioso material de import\u00e2ncia hist\u00f3rica e econ\u00f4mica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Outro importante marco foi a associa\u00e7\u00e3o do Centro Multiusu\u00e1rio para An\u00e1lise de Fen\u00f4menos Biom\u00e9dicos da Universidade do Estado do Amazonas (CMABio-UEA) ao PPGMBT. O CMABio \u00e9 uma infraestrutura cient\u00edfica estrat\u00e9gica voltada ao suporte de pesquisas multidisciplinares relacionadas \u00e0 biodiversidade amaz\u00f4nica. Localizado no campus da Escola Superior de Ci\u00eancias da UEA. O CMABio oferece laborat\u00f3rios equipados com tecnologias avan\u00e7adas para an\u00e1lises f\u00edsico-qu\u00edmicas, biol\u00f3gicas, moleculares e ambientais. Seu principal objetivo \u00e9 apoiar a gera\u00e7\u00e3o de conhecimento e inova\u00e7\u00e3o a partir dos recursos naturais da Amaz\u00f4nia, promovendo a integra\u00e7\u00e3o entre grupos de pesquisa, programas de p\u00f3s-gradua\u00e7\u00e3o e institui\u00e7\u00f5es parceiras. Al\u00e9m disso, o CMABio contribui para a forma\u00e7\u00e3o de recursos humanos qualificados, o desenvolvimento regional sustent\u00e1vel e a valoriza\u00e7\u00e3o da ci\u00eancia produzida na regi\u00e3o. Como centro multiusu\u00e1rio, est\u00e1 dispon\u00edvel para diferentes pesquisadores e projetos, ampliando o acesso \u00e0 infraestrutura de ponta e fortalecendo a pesquisa cient\u00edfica na Amaz\u00f4nia por meio da microscopia e da espectrometria de massas. Avan\u00e7o impulsionado pelas mudan\u00e7as na coordena\u00e7\u00e3o do curso e nos ritos de seu conselho cient\u00edfico, bem como numa atua\u00e7\u00e3o mais direcionada \u00e0s quest\u00f5es locais que impediam a melhoria do programa. Neste sentido, melhoramos nossa infraestrutura, readequamos nosso corpo docente, aplicamos pol\u00edticas p\u00fablicas de a\u00e7\u00f5es afirmativas, aumentamos o quantitativo de bolsas, fortalecemos a intera\u00e7\u00e3o com empresas e avan\u00e7amos em pontos como a interioriza\u00e7\u00e3o e a internacionaliza\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Desta forma, temos como expectativa a subida da nota do programa para 4, isto baseando-se nas melhorias citadas, mas tamb\u00e9m na melhoria dos \u00edndices de publica\u00e7\u00e3o que foram alcan\u00e7ados no quadri\u00eanio<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-column stk-block-column stk-column stk-block stk-35ac114\" data-v=\"4\" data-block-id=\"35ac114\"><div class=\"stk-column-wrapper stk-block-column__content stk-container stk-35ac114-container stk--no-background stk--no-padding\"><div class=\"stk-block-content stk-inner-blocks stk-35ac114-inner-blocks\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Graduate Program in Biotechnology and Natural Resources of the Amazon was approved by the CNE through Ordinance No. 4,310 on 12\/21\/2004. This is a graduate program that offers only an Academic Master&#8217;s Course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Master\u2019s Program in Biotechnology and Natural Resources (PPGMBT) at the State University of Amazonas (UEA) aims to train professionals for teaching, research, outreach, innovation, and management, thus providing human resources for the public and private systems of science, technology, and entrepreneurship. The PPGMBT is committed to training master\u2019s graduates capable of contributing to the conservation and sustainable development of the Amazon, as well as improving the quality of life for its inhabitants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UEA, based on the inseparable triad of teaching, research, and community outreach, promotes the integration between academia and society through undergraduate education and its scientific initiation program, graduate courses (lato and stricto sensu), and community-oriented outreach activities. Its studies and research are directed toward the social and economic demands of the state, with a primary focus on scientific knowledge about the Brazilian and continental Amazon. This effort is supported by ethical values that integrate individuals into society and enhance the quality of the region\u2019s human resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">PPGMBT began its activities in 2003 in the Biological Sciences evaluation area. Since then, it has produced 210 Master\u2019s graduates in Biotechnology and Natural Resources, significantly contributing to human resource qualification in the State of Amazonas. The program was established just two years after UEA\u2019s creation, with support from SUFRAMA and the newly founded FAPEAM. At first, its faculty comprised INPA researchers and temporary UEA professors. The first tenured professors joined in 2008, and only from 2012 onward did the faculty include productive in-house professors who established laboratories and research groups. Today, PPGMBT primarily consists of UEA faculty members, with contributions from INPA and UFAM researchers, continuously improving its scientific and academic contributions despite its limitations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">PPGMBT has a single area of concentration in Biotechnology and Bioprospecting, divided into two research lines:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Area of Concentration: Biotechnology and Bioprospecting<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Research Lines:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>01 &#8211; Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity<\/strong><br>This research line aims to inventory biodiversity and scientifically investigate components of flora and fauna with potential applications for improving human quality of life and reducing social inequalities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>02 &#8211; Bioprospecting, Bioprocesses, and Bioproducts<\/strong><br>This research line focuses on the floristic and faunal bioprospecting of products and by-products to enhance the value of Amazonian biodiversity. It includes the development of immunological and genetic diagnostic methods, as well as the systematic and legal localization, evaluation, and exploration of biological resources. The goal is to identify and utilize the genetic and biochemical resources of the region in various aspects, with a focus on sustainable commercial applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The program has a multidisciplinary character, serving as an academic space for training master&#8217;s students. The establishment of PPGMBT in 2003 addressed an essential demand for professional qualification in the Brazilian Amazon, focusing on the application of natural resources in the newly created UEA. Initially, PPGMBT\u2019s faculty consisted solely of temporary professors and researchers from other institutions based in Manaus. In 2008, with the first public hiring of professors, the program underwent significant changes. Until 2008, PPGMBT was evaluated under the General Biology area before transitioning to the Biotechnology area under CAPES\u2019s directive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By the end of 2024, PPGMBT had enrolled 38 students, all of whom graduated (100%). At the end of 2024, 16 students were enrolled, with 4 graduating that year. Thus, the total number of students in 2024, including enrolled and graduated students, was 15. For 2025, 10 slots were offered, with enrollments scheduled for April. Among them, one master\u2019s student was selected through the Partnerships Program for Education and Training (PAEC-OEA-GCUB) under the Cooperation Agreement between the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Coimbra Group of Brazilian Universities (GCUB). To date, six international students from Bolivia, Colombia, Guatemala, Peru, and Mexico have joined PPGMBT through the PAEC-OEA-GCUB program. Additionally, a student from Mozambique participated in the program through the Higher Education Teacher Training Program for African Countries (ProAfri-GCUB).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">PPGMBT graduates have continued their academic training, with 86% of the 162 master\u2019s graduates enrolling in doctoral programs in Amazonas and other Brazilian states. Moreover, graduates are well-absorbed into the job market, especially in higher education and research, both in public and private institutions. In the last two four-year periods, 41 out of 46 (86%) graduates have been affiliated with major public research and education institutions such as UEA, INPA, UFAM, and the Amazon Biotechnology Center (CBA) as doctoral students, researchers, employees, or postdoctoral fellows. Some alumni also work as professors at private higher education institutions, such as the North University Center, and at public universities, such as Universidade ROVUMA in Mozambique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A notable achievement in this four-year period was the establishment of the PPGMBT self-assessment committee, in alignment with CAPES\u2019s new evaluation approach for stricto sensu graduate programs in Brazil. This initiative follows Resolution No. 11\/2020 &#8211; CONSUNIV, which approves UEA\u2019s self-assessment policy for graduate programs. The committee, composed of six researchers, one student, one graduate, and one technician, collects qualitative and quantitative data to establish strategic objectives across three dimensions: Program, Training, and Societal Impact. This ensures effective planning with clearly defined goals and aligns strategic planning with UEA\u2019s Institutional Development Plan (PDI).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Compared to the previous four-year period, PPGMBT has implemented significant changes in program management, particularly with a shift in coordination, aiming for a paradigm shift. These changes have led to improvements in funding acquisition, interactions with the productive sector, and internationalization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recently, PPGMBT graduates established their first startups:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Elevar da Amaz\u00f4nia Ltda<\/strong> (CNPJ: 36.485.521\/0001-23), a company producing Amazonian vinegar and kombucha, originated from a dissertation on fermentative processes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Magnus Amazonia Biotecnologia Vegetal Ltda<\/strong> (CNPJ: 50.208.762\/0001-56), focused on biotechnological optimization of plant seedlings for timber and cosmetic production.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">PPGMBT has also partnered with regional startups, such as D\u2019Amazonia Origens Agroflorestal Ltda, Urucuna Cosm\u00e9ticos e Artesanatos Ltda, and Norte Gen\u00f4mica Solu\u00e7\u00f5es Moleculares Ltda, to foster research and development in food supplements, cosmetics, and molecular analysis, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the first time, PPGMBT secured national research funding through the PDPG Emergency Call for Strategic Consolidation of Graduate Programs, providing approximately R$400,000 in research materials and scholarships. These funds facilitated internationalization efforts, including a visit from Dr. Ant\u00f4nio Jord\u00e3o of the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu, Portugal, and the first international research internship by a PPGMBT student.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the past two four-year periods, PPGMBT has expanded its technical infrastructure, improving research quality and CAPES evaluations. A key milestone was the establishment of the <strong>Microbiological Collections Center (CCM\/UEA)<\/strong>, housing over 2,000 microbial strains for biotechnology applications. Another milestone was the association of the <strong>Multiuser Center for Biomedical Phenomena Analysis (CMABio-UEA)<\/strong>, a facility supporting multidisciplinary research on Amazonian biodiversity through advanced laboratory techniques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Overall, PPGMBT has made significant progress in addressing previous evaluation weaknesses, improving infrastructure, faculty composition, affirmative action policies, scholarship availability, business partnerships, outreach, and internationalization.
